International Friends: Exchange Students

First day back and I am over school already. I have a test tomorrow and homework in every subject. Fun right? Not particularly. Got to slug it out, though.

So today something happened that was pretty interesting. My school regularly has exchange students and currently in my year group, we have 3. One is from Germany, another from Japan, and the latest from Italy. The Japanese and Italian exchange students are hanging out with my friends and I, so the conversation has several different perspectives. Today, the Italian decided on the subjects that he wants to take on for the time that he is in Australia, and surprisingly he has chosen to do Japanese. He is an Italian, learning English, and has now chosen to do Japanese as a part of the top Japanese class. I honestly thought that he was lost when he showed up at our class this morning. It will be an interesting experience, indeed.

I enjoy the opportunities that my school has with so many exchange students visiting. I have met some very interesting people and the conversations during breaks are hilarious. The Italian exchange student has taken great enjoyment teaching one of my friends how to swear in Italian, while my friend in turn has had fun stirring him up about pizza. Italians are very passionate about pizza… Hearing an Italian, Japanese and Australian argue about pizza makes you wonder how people do things in their own countries.

I hope you day is going well 🙂

PS. EXO is back! My favourite off the album is ‘The Eve’. So happy that they are finally back. I am loving Chanyeol’s hair and am relieved that Kai’s hair isn’t actually in dreadlocks.

Returning to School

My July school holidays have come to a sad end. The two weeks flew by so quickly so now I unfortunately have to go back to school. It kind of sucks. I was meant to do a post at the start of the holidays about my goals for these two weeks but I sort of forgot… I am really good at this (please note sarcasm).

My biggest goal for these holidays was to finish crocheting a blanket that I had been working on for a while. I have spent to solid weeks working on it and I can see the end in sight. As of now, I am not yet finished but give it another week or so and it will be. Even though I haven’t finished, I am happy with my work because I know that I am capable of finishing. I am looking forward to the day when my blanket is finally finished.

Something I was looking forward to these holidays was watch Wimbledon. I am a Andy Murray supporter so I had high hopes for this years tournament. Unfortunately, injury got the better of him so he wasn’t able to progress. Congrats to Federer though. I didn’t think he still had it in him. Maybe next year will be Murray’s year.

Do I want to go back to school? Not really. Do I have to go back to school? Apparently so. You have to push through things that you don’t like so that one day it will be over. At least tomorrow EXO is having their comeback. There is something to look forward to.

I hope you have a nice day and that the universe will look kindly upon you.

The Necessity of a Break

One of my favourite things to do is to lie underneath the stars. Some people do mediation while others have a 10k run; I look up at the stars and think. Sometimes I have music, like tonight, other nights I don’t. It makes me realise and appreciate how lucky I am. It is also just nice to take a step back from the stress of work, work, work 24/7. If I can’t sleep, I will often quietly come outside and it helps to clear my mind. It is so easy to get caught up on the freeway of life that sometimes a break is needed. I enjoy star gazing because it makes me realise how small we are in comparison to the universe. I also like just listening to nature; like humanity just fades away.

My teachers at school are pushing the idea of a 5 minute meditation during class. Now this doesn’t really work for me because it just encourages me to sleep, but it works for a lot of people. I think it is beneficial in life to find out what calms your mind and clears stress. Whether that be listening to music, thinking, running, or just sitting still for 5 minutes, I think that it makes a huge difference in your personality and your attitude. I know the difference that star gazing as had on me. I appreciate the little rewards and gifts that life grants us, and the need for understanding yourself.
